FAQs

If you have questions about Radiator and Towel Rail range we offer, here you can find some FAQ's. You can also find more information in our radiator blog.

1. Are there different types of radiators?

Yes, there are different kinds of radiators. The main types of radiators are electric radiators, plumbed radiators and dual fuel radiators.

Plumbed radiators. These radiators are filled with hot water to heat the home. They are generally connected to a central heating system via pipes, allowing hot water to flow through the radiators and provide warmth. The water is usually heated by a boiler.

Electric radiators. An electric radiator is filled with thermofluid, which is heated by an electrical element powered by a plug or wired directly into the mains. They do not require pipework and only need electricity to run.

Dual fuel radiators. An intelligent and practical combination of both plumbed and electric systems, a dual fuel radiator features the same type of heating element found in an electric radiator, while also being connected to your central heating system. This allows the radiator to work as part of your full heating system while also offering independent heating when required.

2. What type of radiator is better for my house?

Both plumbed and electric radiator have benefits to consider before making the decision on which heating system works better for you.  Plumbed systems are an efficient choice when heating up your whole home. Electric radiators are convenient if you want to heat up one room quickly, such as a guest room with no existing system.al heating system.

3. Where is the best place to install the radiators?

Traditionally, the best place to install the radiators under the windows because it generally is the coldest place in the room. Installing the radiators close to the windows will help to keep the place away from outdoors humidity. It also helps to create better heat conduction. It is recommended not to install the radiators behind any furniture as they can restrict the airflow and will make your system less efficient. To make the most of your heating system, adding a reflector foil behind it can help to reduce the losing of heat.

4. What is a BTU?

BTU stands for British Thermal Unit and is the measure of the output for a radiator. Every radiator has an BTU assigned. You need to calculate the BTU required for each room you would like to add a radiator in.

5. Do I need valves for the radiators?

There are two kinds of valve to consider: thermostatic valves or manual valves.

Manual valves work like a tap, allowing you to twist and adjust the flow of heat manually.

Thermostatic valves react to the temperature of the room and will self-regulate to a set level for improved comfort and efficiency.

We offer a wide range of radiator valves to suit all styles and heating systems.

6. How to maintain the radiators?

Electric radiators generally do not require a high level of maintenance. However, for plumbed radiators, regular maintenance is recommended to help maintain efficiency and performance.

Plumbers recommend carrying out at least yearly maintenance checks to ensure your heating system is working correctly and running efficiently.

We offer a variety of central heating chemical products to help with the maintenance process, including leak sealer, heating protector liquid and much more.

You can also find more tips to check your radiators' health on our blog.

7. What are the types of heated towel radiators?

There are three different kinds of towel radiators depending on the fuel type they use to produce heat.

Plumbed. These require pipework to be connected to the heating system and linked to the boiler.

Electric. These do not need a pipe system. They only require connection to the mains electric supply to operate.

Dual fuel. These are plumbed towel warmers fitted with an electric heating element, making them dual fuel. This means the towel warmer will heat up when your central heating is on during winter, while also giving you the option to use the electric element independently when the central heating is off.
